The air-hostess has been a figure which conjures up the idea of glamour since
the very birth of the airline industry. Young women are drawn to these jobs by
the allure of travel and the opportunity of meeting interesting people.
Therefore it should come as no surprise when advertisements offering airline job
openings receive countless applications. The competition that young women have
to face to secure such situations is so severe that today it is not uncommon for
many hopeful applicants to opt for air hostess training to improve their chances
of finding airline stewardess jobs. There is no doubt that the career of an air
hostess is an interesting one but young girls should also be aware of the work
that goes along with it.
Air-hostesses and in fact all air crew members
have to maintain calm under stress. They must be able to control passengers who
are disturbing the peace of the other passengers yet do so in as polite a manner
as they can. Air-hostesses must be able to handle any situation with elegance
and gentility and without offending anyone. Air-hostesses are almost expected to
keep their smile on and no matter how long the flight is, they must always get
off looking as fresh as they did while getting on. Often their tasks are made
difficult by two or more equally stubborn passengers who insist on engaging in
verbal or physical attacks. An air-hostess must be able to control such a
situation with the utmost diplomacy and always remember to be polite. Unattended
children may also require attention from air-hostesses.
